The YMCA of Pictou County is located in the Pictou County Wellness Centre – a hub of community activity, health and wellness, and connection. We also have a variety of private gyms and training, year-round trail systems, parks, playgrounds and even equipment-loan programs through our municipalities.

We have great shopping, great coffee, a variety of national grocers and smaller independent groceries like the Punjabi Grocery, Balai Filipino & Asian Food Mart and Sewa African Market (451 Merigomish Road, New Glasgow) stores – yes, here in Pictou County! You can find most of what you need in a 20-kilometer radius here.

The East Coast of Canada is known for its unique and world-famous tastes, and Pictou County is no exception. We are proud of the many local products developed and prepared here in Pictou County. Favourite spots to find local include the New Glasgow Farmer’s Market, and other markets and businesses offering year-round opportunities to enjoy and purchase locally made goods and wares. From lavender to spirits, to honey and produce – you won’t need to travel far to support local and find exactly what you need. Speaking of local we are proud to call many successful businesses home – including Sobeys, which was founded in Stellarton in 1907. We’re also home to one of the province’s three Michelin plants.

There’s no such thing as bad weather – just being improperly dressed! Ready to take in the sunshine? Hit up our many beaches to soak up the sun, sand and enjoy the warmest salt waters north of the Carolinas. Scared but also maybe a little excited about the snow? It’s all about embracing winter – with proper clothing and finding some activities (indoor and out!) during winter. Spring brings renewal, and the fall colours are spectacular.
